Everyone's at it these days.... using social media to promote their businesses near and far, large and small. How great is that?

Sometimes the greatest marketing comes from looking at what makes people smile. If you concentrate on keeping the customer at the centre of your brand marketing you can achieve a lot.

After all it is easy to forget the motto: It's not about YOU it's about THEM.

And we're back....

Sorry it's been so long tweeple but the day job has been extremely busy over the past few months and of course the wedding plans are also taking precedence over lots of things!
So what's been happening in the world of social media? Well we've been busy.
Facebook has passed the more than 500 million active users mark.

* 50% of our active users log on to Facebook in any given day
* Average user has 130 friends
* People spend over 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook

Interesting stuff but even more interesting is the rate of migration on to the other platfor Twitter. 145 million users says that it is quickly catching up to Facebook.

I know a number of 'techies' or self confessed 'geeks' who had previous ridiculed my attempts at communication on Twitter telling me that they had a twitter account found it boring and never returned. Well now they are returning. It has become the form of social communication du jour!

So if you have a twitter account but no friends what do you do next?
Firstly figure out what you want from that account. Do you have business aims?

Promote your business. Develop new leads. Raise awareness of what you do?

Or is it purely a social tool?

Do you want to meet new people, chat , research and find peer opinion?

Once you know which of the two it is then the next step is to find people on twitter that you already know.

Twittersearch is one way of doing that. Pop in their name see what pops up!

Also let people know your @twitter identity. Your name is not always available so let them know via your facebook status.

Also don't forget to pop a link to me on Twitter button, ( they are free and easy to install) on your blog or website.
